Psychoeducational Assessments:
Get the Answers You've Been Looking For
Our Goal Is To Truly SEE Your Child.
- Whether your child is struggling with school and you're looking for answers, or they're doing OK and you just want to get some insights into how they learn, a psychoeducational assessment can help!
- Every child is different and our goal is to accurately assess their strengths and challenges.
- This can be challenging when they're feeling uncomfortable and not "acting themselves" when engaging with a psychologist.
- So we developed the skills and process we need to connect quickly so that we can really see your child.
Our Process - Honed Over More Than 20 Years Of Specializing In This Work - Is Designed To Uncover All The Information We Need To Make An Accurate Assessment.
- This includes gathering information including school records and interviewing people who know your child.
- But mostly it means getting to know your child. Creating an environment where they feel comfortable and safe so that they show us who they truly are.
- Parents often report that their children enjoy and look forward to our sessions.
- We offer psychoeducational assessments at a flat rate so that we can spend all the time we need and you get no "hourly rate surprises."
We do this work because we care about kids. It's our mission to change the world one child at a time.
Here's How Our Process Works:
1 Initial Consultation
Our first meeting is 20 to 30 minutes and there is no charge. You'll tell us about your child and situation and we'll share fee information and how our process works. If you choose to move forward, we'll schedule your appointments and we'll send you a checklist of items you need to provide for the assessment.
2 Intake & Information Gathering
To do an accurate assessment, we need a lot of information. We make this process as easy and streamlined as possible by providing forms you can fill in online, templates for any requests you need to make, and a checklist of what you need to supply. Once you sign the consent form, we will confirm your appointments and begin the information gathering process.
3 Introductory Session
The primary goal of this session is for us to get to know your child. We usually conduct these by video conference so that your child can attend from home and feel comfortable and safe for this first meeting. If video conference won't work for you, an in-person session can be arranged.
4 In-Person Testing
These meetings happen at our office in Calgary. The setting is comfortable and homey. We pride ourselves on being able to connect with children so that they are cooperative and relaxed. Kids usually enjoy these sessions and look forward to them. Parents are often surprised by how quickly and easily we connect.
5 Report Generation
Based on the information we gathered and our direct experience with your child, we will create a comprehensive report outlining our findings. Your report also includes advice and suggestions you can use to support your child. We also create an executive summary that graphically displays the big picture of our findings. The report takes about two to three weeks to produce - we balance taking our time to thoroughly analyze and assess - with getting the results to you as quickly as we can.
6 Results Meeting
We meet with you to review the report. We'll explain what those numbers mean - but more importantly - we'll show you how you can use the report and results to support and advocate for your child. Bring your questions, we're happy to answer them.
7 Follow Up Support
A psychoeducational assessment provides a LOT of information and insight. You may have questions following the results meeting and you are welcome to contact us to ask - we're happy to have a follow up discussion with you. If you'd like ongoing support, we also offer follow-up support packages.
